The Geological Survey of Alberta has published the results of a study into the potential for diamond-bearing deposits in that province.
Entitled The Diamond Potential of Alberta, the report includes: geological target areas in Alberta that would assist in the exploration of diamonds; existing diamond exploration methods that may be used in the province; and selected geological, geophysical and geochemical data used in such exploration.
The report was compiled for the benefit of the exploration, mining and investment communities, and also contains geological, geophysical, contour and summary maps.
Funded by the Canada-Alberta Partnership on Minerals, the study was initiated, in 1993, as a result of diamond discoveries in the Lac de Gras area of the Northwest Territories, and the Fort a la Corne area of Saskatchewan. These discoveries suggest a potential for additional discoveries in similar geological formations in Alberta.
