Pilot leach tests are continuing at the Cieneguita gold property in southwest Chihuahua state, Mexico.
Glamis Gold (TSE) can earn a 60% interest from Aquiline Resources (VSE) by carrying out a feasibility study and advancing the project to a production decision.
Cieneguita contains a drill-indicated reserve of 3.6 million tonnes grading 1.7 grams gold per tonne.
Glamis has a 10,000-tonne-capacity pilot plant on site and is leaching 5,000 tonnes grading about 3.4 grams. The tests started in October, 1993, and gold recoveries are running at 70-75%. A further 5,000 tonnes of material are being prepared for leaching in an effort to define and improve on the permeability and rate of gold recovery.
The joint venture expects the leaching to continue until at least the end of June.
Meanwhile, the joint venture plans to conduct metallurgical tests on the mixed oxide-sulphide zone situated below the current reserves. Drilling is planned as well, in order to define the limits of the entire oxide-sulphide deposit.
