Geophysical and soil geochemical surveys are in progress on the Buchans base metal property in west-central Newfoundland.
Current owner Thunderwood Resources (TSE) reports that the property hosted the highest-grade volcanogenic massive sulphide deposits ever mined in Canada. Over a 56-year period, 17.8 million tons of ore with an average grade of 1.33% copper, 7.56% lead, 14.51% zinc, 3.68 oz. silver and 0.04 oz. gold per ton were mined from five major deposits.
At present, work is focusing on an extensive area of favorable Buchans River Formation rocks that lies southwest of the old mine area, and south of the Clementine prospect. The work area, which contains 400,000 tons of transported sulphides assaying 0.3% copper, 2.6% lead, 4.9% zinc, 1.2 oz. silver and 0.01 oz. gold, will be subjected to a pulse electromagnetic and a soil geochemical survey. Previous, widely spaced soil sampling outlined an area with concentrations of lead, zinc and barium.
Diamond drilling will be carried out after freeze-up.
